The national oceans policy, working with the Maritime Zones Act 2015 seeks to improve the governance framework for the sustainable use and management of the oceans and its resources in PNG. It brings all stakeholders such as the government, provincial government, coastal communities, NGOs and private sector together under the overarching framework of the United Nations Law of the Sea Convention to manage the use of the ocean and its resources in a holistic manner. The policy has been developed in consultation with the national oceans committee which comprises mostly of stakeholders who have a mandate in the ocean space.
